Preparation for Europe tour

It was like a dream come true! With the wave of a Little Fairy’s magic wand the wheel of fortune began to turn and scatter miracles everywhere. So we had to work with redoubled energy. Preparation for a tour to four European countries started in January. Repertoire requirements were exacting: four songs should be performed in Kazakh and four – in English. Rehash songs would not do. It was necessary to perform our own songs, but we did not have them! It is difficult to impress Europeans by European music. We understood it clearly. It is also difficult to impress Europeans by Kazakh folk songs, Diana is not a native speaker, you know. In addition music bands from Kazakhstan visit European countries regularly and introduce the culture of Kazakhstan to Western audience. It was the only decision: to perform songs at the intersection of both cultures. It is a great to have a good team. Zulyar Sabirov, Diana’s art director, helped us to solve the problem. And then Diana Snegina, a broadcaster, high-class professional and simply a wonderful person, joined us. It was decided to start from the preparation of Kazakh folk songs. We needed a good composer and lyric writer, who were familiar with the Kazakh folklore. Alexander Bodrov, a vice-president of Natural Healers Association of Kazakhstan helped us to communicate with Ziyadan Kazhi Kozhalymov, the President of this organization, who is also a composer and akyn. Ziyadan Kazhi, a well respected man, aksakal started working without any delay. Then we had to find an arranger who could reproduce strong energy of kazakh colour in modern musical adaptation of Ziyadan Kazhi’s songs. Zulyar Sabirov found Dauren Bainazarov, an excellent musician, arranger and composer. He is a founder of Derik Records recording studio. Dauren agreed readily to do it. So three songs from Kazakh repertoire - “Omirim”, “Sagymdai Bolyp” and “Shipager baba” - were ready. But it was necessary to have four songs! Dauren offered us his own song, “Bile Zhastar”, which was so successful that appeared in TOP20 hit parade of radio “Europa Plus” in Kazakhstan. At last the first stage of the preparation was completed. All the songs in Kazakh were in Diana’s repertoire. At the second stage of work we faced some other problems. After hot discussions we made a decision to have our two new songs translated into English, to record Diana’s solo “Moonlight Sonata” both in Russian and in English, and the fourth song should be written from “point zero”. And again with the wave of a Little Fairy’s magic wand, Alina Alova (well-known under the name April) from St. Petersburg and Viktor and Denis Kuzmin, the brothers from Novocherkask joined our team. They translated our songs and wrote new lyrics in English. Alina translated “Lunnaya Sonata” which was named “Moonlight Sonata” in English, Kuzmin brothers translated our new song “Prikosnovenie” (“Velvet Touch”) in English. They also wrote lyrics of two songs “The heartbeat of youth” and “Teardrop on my palm”. They translated our song “My Girl” (“Moya Devochka”) into English and wrote the words to our melody. (You can download the new songs in the Concert Repertoire section.) We were short of time. So we decided to record “Moonlight Sonata” at One Studio. Stress doubled. Thanks to Artem Gaziyanc, a sound engineer and studio manager, we could record the song quickly. Many of his ideas were quite interesting and useful. Our team worked day and night but despite of the tiredness we were happy. The result was worth our efforts. A beautiful lyric song was sounding in the studio and charming our ears. | ||
